I'll second that neck problem, Charity! Too many years spent at the keyboard takes its toll. But we're both glad to have been here anyway, aren't we? Completely track with you--it feels unnatural to stand up straight and drag my shoulders down. Loved going for a walk with you! Loved the sweet photo of you with your mother!
I love the way you've reframed slouching shoulders, Crystal! Yes, I'm grateful for the work that has me slouching, and also happy that I can learn different habits to try to ease the pain.
Only a week late - just screeching in before the next WR drops! I loved this - can SO relate re: back and neck issues, and that's fascinating how you link muscle memory to the story of Israel. Personally, in terms of reminders, I have increasingly looked to the beauty of icons (Orthodox and others) and have started following a few modern icon artists on Instagram, who work in the traditional style. I am finding often stops me in my scroll and brings me back to God.
I love the role that icons are playing in your life of faith, Jenni. And how wise to follow these kinds of accounts on Instagram, so that even as you are scrolling you can be reminded of God's presence with you.
I use jewelry to turn my attention towards God and remind myself of His goodness. Specifically, rings engraved with phrases from verses, or that are in the shape of a cross or a nail. My sister likes supporting Christian apparel businesses, and has drawn people's attention, compliments and curiosity to the verses on her shirts. It's encouraging that the Israelites were encouraged to use physical reminders to prompt obedience and gratefulness long ago.
I love this, Melissa. What an interesting connection between our modern jewelry and tshirts and the OT phylacteries and fringes. Do you have a specific habit of looking at your rings or turning them or something that helps you turn your attention?
I do have a habit of glancing at a ring I wear when I feel my thoughts pull towards a negative direction. The ring prompts me to think about God or a specific verse. For instance, a ring in the shape of a nail reminds me of Isa 53:5.
People definitely wear crosses and/or other religious jewelry for fashion alone, but for me it can serve as a reminder of my relationship with Christ. :-)

I hope we can go for another walk sometime soon.
