Charity, I’m always so glad to see your words in my in-box! As I was reading, I couldn’t help thinking what a wonderful children’s librarian you must be and how fortunate are the children you serve! Thank you for this thoughtful reflection on the greening of spring and Lent. And also for these book recommendations. I have not read any of them, so my list gets longer again. Happy spring, friend. May your Eastering be joyful.
Hi Laura! So wonderful to hear from you. I hope you have a wonderful Easter, too. I'd love to know what books have been your companions lately! And thank you for your kinds words. I do love being a children's librarian ... the children teach me so much!
This is a lovely post, Charity. So glad for your words, and book recommendations. I’ve been slowly reading Sarah’s book, and just added Bobby’s to my list. Lent has felt slow this year and I’ve been grateful for it. So many months this year already have felt so quick. I’m grateful for the time to it a little longer in the shadow of the cross before Easter…
Hi Kris -- I love that Lent felt slow for you this year. I agree that the months often fly by so quickly. If any season is going to be slow, I think Lent is probably the best one!
Hope you are well! Have there been any other books on your own stack that you have loved lately?
I am reading Sarah Clarkson’s book as I read your recommendation. It is one I love for her vulnerability as well as her earthiness. ( My hand remembers the quiet of not moving when my child was close and asleep.). Thank you for your writing again after your advanced education and move and employment. Jill
Hi Jill! I'm so glad to know that you also have found Sarah Clarkson's Books. As soon as I finished Reclaiming Quiet, I moved on to This Beautiful Truth and just finished it too. So much goodness to consider.
I'm glad to be back and reconnecting with you and others!
So thankful to have your thoughtful words appear in my inbox again! Last year for Lent I read Tim Keller’s Hope in Times of Fear: The Resurrection and Meaning of Easter. I am re-reading it this year. It may become my permanent Lenten practice.
I haven't read that Tim Keller book. Isn't it a wonder to find a book that feels like it can be an annual companion? I am appreciating those kinds of books ... and actually using them as such ... more and more. Blessings!
Perfect timing, Charity. My life took a turn last Monday after a playground accident sidelined me for the next 6-8 weeks. I am a self-employed house cleaner who is now non weight bearing on one leg and on crutches. My Lent has become more real to me and God feels very present. I have seen His hand at work in all the love that has been poured out on me through my family, friends, and neighbors. It's not what I would have chosen but I would have missed so many blessings if that decision was mine to make. Thank you for sharing your gift of writing.
Hi Patty -- I'm sorry I am only now responding, but I read your message when you left it and have prayed for you and your injuries. How are you doing? I was struck by your comment that this situation has allowed Lent to feel "more real" this year. I am grateful for all the blessings that you have seen, even in this time of suffering. I'm grateful you shared this with me ... it's a gift to pray for you and enter into this season with you in a small way.
God said yes to the many prayers by others asking for a speedy recovery. I am off crutches after just 18 days and start PT on Monday. The fracture has almost completely healed with just a teeny tiny crack remaining. Now, Easter feels "more real" this year. So very grateful!
Charity! Would you ever consider writing a book in the near future? I enjoy your Wonder Report and look forward to seeing it in my email Keep them coming!
Thanks so much, Susan! I don't know if another book is in my near future, but I am very happy to be writing here. Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you're here!
